| Government kids website pays £6 for every visitor |

The Department for Children, Schools and Families spent almost £60,000 developing a temporary website which has had less than 10,000 visitors since it was created and which is due to close next month.
The site - called "Build your PlaySpace" - cost £50,000 plus VAT to build - and was meant to encourage children to get involved with a consultation on play. It has had just 9,286 visitors and will close 18 August. How many of those visitors completed the dull questionnaire was not revealed in the written answer from Kevin Brennan, under-secretary for children, young people and families. We'll have to wait to hear full details of the government's new play strategy - "Tough on play, tough on the causes of play" perhaps? The government will spend £235m in the next three years on helping children play. Some 20 local authorities have been named "Play pathfinders". We'd have thought £50,000 would buy a lot of children some nice sweets while they talked about play.
